Artists In Residency Culmination Celebration

  • Community Room 3650 W. Martin Luther King Jr Blvd Los Angeles, 90008 (map)

Internationally exhibiting visual artist Ingrid Calame will work with Transitional Age Foster Care Youth in an intensive workshop based off of her artists book Being Born (publisher Snoeck, Cologne, Germany). Participants will start by sharing their own birth stories that will be a launching point for conceiving of who they want to be in their transition out of the foster care system. Activities include discussion, resume writing, brainstorming about the future, drawing, painting, creative writing. The 2 workshops will culminate with a performance of transcribed birthstories read by chosen performers from the participants’ life. We are so excited to host Ingrid as our Artist In Residency, as she opens meaningful conversations for our youth.

This workshop is made possible by the Los Angeles Department of Cultural Affairs 2017 Individual Artist Grant.  Further information on Ingrid Calame available at ingridcalame.net and on her book Being Born at https://www.amazon.com/Ingrid-Calame-Being-Jochen-Kienbaum/dp/3864421594
